MedX Lumbar Extension Machine: Precision in Spinal Health

MedX Back Therapy – Eighty percent of all people will experience lower back pain in their lifetime. Precision exercise is one of the best ways to address back pain, but unfortunately, the lower back is a notoriously difficult area to train properly due to the poor design of lower back machines. Specifically, lower back machines do not fully isolate the muscles of the lumbar spine.

Without proper isolation, these muscles tend to become weak and atrophied over the course of a lifetime. This atrophy and muscle weakness can lead to a breakdown in the discs and facet joints of the lumbar spine. So Arthur was on a mission. And his mission was not cheap or fast to realize. It took years of research, trial and error, and millions of dollars, out of his pocket, for him to eventually get it right.

A Legacy of Innovation: The History

Thanks to Authur’s vision and persistence, the MedX Lumbar Extension machine was born. Boasting a frictionless weight stack, micro weight progressions, and a restraint system to immobilize the hips and pelvis, true isolation of the lumbar spine muscles was finally achievable.

Process Involved in the MedX Back Pain Therapy with Lumbar Extension Machine

The MedX medical lumbar extension machine is designed to isolate and strengthen the muscle groups that support the trunk by utilizing a unique restraint system which stabilizes the pelvis and legs. The machine also allows us to perform the testing every three degrees through the 72 degrees of normal pain-free range of motion. Pain inhibits muscle contraction, which means that if you are tested and there is pain associated with the testing you are unable to give a full effort and the test will not be valid.

Therefore, the testing and subsequent rehabilitation must be performed pain-free, not only for the test to be valid but, to avoid hurting the patient. Isometric testing also allows the patient to control the test and discontinue if they feel discomfort or are not comfortable during the testing. Validity is achieved by effectively stabilizing the pelvis to achieve lumbar spinal muscle isolation.

We can test each individual’s low back strength and compare them to age-matched norms (other men or women their age and weight). For example, if you are a 50-year-old, 145 pound, and female, we can show you how you compare to other women who are 50 years old and weigh 145 pounds. This shows us how strong your back would be if it was healthy. This allows us to document muscle weakness and gives us baseline measurements allowing us to more effectively predict a positive outcome, as well as follow your progress as we increase strength to normal levels.

Due to its unique ability to isolate and strengthen the muscle groups that support the trunk, the MedX medical lumbar extension machine requires no more than two (2) exercise sessions per week, preferably 2 days but no less than 1 day between exercise sessions to allow the muscles to recover. Because of its ability to isolate the functional weakness, we can see a significant improvement with patients reporting less pain and more mobility within the first few weeks and often within the first few treatments. Even patients who have suffered from low back pain for years note significant improvement rather quickly. Our approach is very powerful and we have thousands of satisfied patients to prove it.

Benefits of MedX Lumbar Extension Machine

The lumbar MedX machine has proven to be extremely effective in the treatment of back pain. The patented restraint system provides an effective way to isolate the deep spinal muscles by preventing movement in the pelvis and firing of the hip and leg muscles. This isolation allows the spine to move smoothly and restore normal firing of the deep spinal stabilizers through a pain-free range of motion.

Another benefit of the MedX is the ability to test an individual’s low back strength effectively with comparison to normal values taking into account the patient’s age, weight, and gender. This allows us to determine how strong your back should be if it is healthy.

Following this baseline test, a training program with individualized progression of resistance levels is performed, in addition to core stability exercises, in order to normalize the overall physiologic strength of the lumbar spine, decrease pain, and reduce susceptibility to future back injuries.

Wrapping Up!

Your back needs movement to be healthy like any of the other joints in the body. Exercise helps maintain your range of motion and prevents your muscles from weakening, in turn allowing you to heal more quickly. Underworking your back can be equally as detrimental as overworking your back.

FAQs on MedX Back Pain Therapy

What is MedX Lumbar Machine?

A: The Medx Lumbar Extension Machine can provide resistance over a full range of isolated lumbar motion (72 degrees), or over a selected limited range. In exercise mode, a compound weight stack provides from 10 to 400 foot pounds in increments of one foot pound.

Is back extension machine good for back pain?

A: Using a lower back extension machine to build your lower back muscles may help with: Stability – Your spinal column is braced by the muscles in your back. They keep your spine supported, promote back mobility, and alleviate some of the stress your spine takes from holding you upright.
